The ancient Greek word for amber is elektron. Scholars believed that the derivation of this word might have connections with helko, meaning ‘to draw or attract,’ or with aleko, meaning ‘to ward off evil.’ But the word is certainly associated with elektor, as used in The Iliad to mean ‘the beaming sun,’ shams in Arabic. Used as a talisman since the beginning of time, I truly believe that this magical organic gemstone embodies all these qualities attributed to it. I always carry a piece of amber with me wherever I go. It is my ultimate talisman.
