Rumi, one of my favourite Sufi poets, quoted, “I keep turning round and round in the hopes of finding you.” Every Friday at dusk a large group of dervishes, belonging to the Sufi sect of Islam, gather in Omdurman to perform a mystical dance ritual. Wearing green robes, they dance in a circular motion, faster and faster culminating in a state of trance to spiritually connect to the Divine. Inspired by this mystical dance, the Rumi ring carries such memories and captures the essence of this spiritual connection.
